New car: A BMW M3 for the masses
BMW says it’s building a new M3 sedan for the mass market.
The new car, to be called the BMW M1, will be a three-door sedan with a six-speed manual gearbox.
It will be available in both sporty and sporty models.
The BMW M2, meanwhile, will remain the automaker’s most popular sports car, and will be the same size as the M3.
The next-generation M3 will have a more compact platform, a sportier interior, and a bigger engine.
It’s expected to arrive later this year.
BMW says the M1 will be priced at $36,500 and will go on sale in 2019.

The four-passenger SUV will be called a BMW M5 and will debut in 2020.
The M5 will be powered by a 3.0-liter inline-four and be the first premium SUV to use BMW’s modular platform.
The premium SUV will offer a range of options from a sporty hatchback to a super-capacitored sports car.
The all-wheel-drive system will be integrated into the vehicle, which will come standard with a five-speed automatic transmission.
BMW is also launching a compact crossover SUV called the M5 Coupe.
It’ll have a three-, four-, and five-door seating configuration, and it will go from $33,500 to $39,000.
